Banks to Bush cycling tour
It’s safe to say that the Banks To Bush trip has been one of the best trips I’ve ever been on. My role on this trip was to take photos and document each day of the trip alongside Nicola. We followed the cyclists the entire day and captured everything. This looked like Nicola and I hanging out of the car windows getting the right shots of the cyclists and us driving out in front of them, me taking photos as they were moving towards us and then Nicola telling me to run and jump into the car and us needing to drive off before they reached the car. Oom Leroux was our media car driver and he, Nicola and I enjoyed many interesting conversations as we were traveling through the different towns and farms. Nicola Oom Leroux shared interesting facts about the farms and townships and it’s safe to say they increased my general knowledge on those things. Watching the cyclists completing this challenge was very entertaining and I am going to use that as my excuse on why we snack so much in the car too. It was really awesome to witness how all of the cyclists were so determined to finish this challenge and how they overcame all the challenges they were faced with. Each day they cycled they seemed to get stronger and stronger even though the routes were becoming harder each day. Capturing these moments was a privilege to be able to do.
When we got back to camp after the ride each day, Nicola and I would sit down and sort through all the photos we took that day and pick the ones we would like to edit. We would then edit all the photos that we took that day in order to distribute the content to the social media team for them to post so everyone could follow our journey each day. The first 2 days of doing this was a bit uncomfortable because normally when I take photos I would have the time to edit the photos over a few days but this trip required for me to shoot the entire day and finish editing everything on the same day. I had to learn very quickly how to be efficient in sorting through my photos and editing them quickly. The first night I finished working at 9pm, the second night 8pm and the third night 7pm and the night after that 6pm. The length of the rides definitely contributed to these times but the editing really became enjoyable once I found a flow with it. The social media team would then sit with Nicola and I and pick the photos they wanted for each account. Their reactions and the reactions of everyone when they saw the photos was really awesome for me to see. I enjoyed the fact that they were enjoying the photos.
This trip really emphasized how passionate I am about photography. I found that even though I was working the entire day , it didn’t even feel like work to me. On the contrary I felt fulfilled in what I was doing due to my passion for it. Even on the last day of the trip I just wanted to continue taking photos and I even went home that night and finished editing the photos I took that day even though it wasn’t needed. I found that I wanted to continue doing what I was doing on the trip in my next week because I enjoyed it so much. I really hope that I get to shoot more things like this in the future again and even take photos for B2Bs next event.
Cullies To Dullies Cyling tour
A week before this trip I had been experiencing quite bad flu symptoms and I was trusting God for them to leave but the symptoms just didn’t seem like they wanted to leave. I recognized that satan was trying to steal from me by not having me be able to participate in this trip that we had been training months for now. I decided to stand in faith that the Lord would remove all the lying symptoms and that He would strengthen and energize me the entire trip.
On the day trip, I went to buy some things with Jeanine, I had asked the Lord that if there’s anything natural that I should do to help to please let me know. So Jeanine asked me if I was ready for the trip and I answered her my faith you know that it was going to strengthen and energize me on the trip and that will be able to cycle both days. She started to explain to me some research she had done on flu symptoms and what to take to allow the victims to actually help fight off the bacteria. I asked her if we could stop by Dischme on the way back and we bought all the vitamins I was needing and I took them that evening. I believe this was God answering my prayer on what to do naturally. So I just stayed in faith that God was going to come through for me.
The next morning we had to be up very early but even with such little sleep I was already feeling so much better. On the way their lying symptoms tried to come back on my body but i just came against them again. I got on the bike and as I rode/ acted on my faith, I just felt my energy and strength rise. I cycled 82km and enjoyed it so much. I even had enough energy to help other people set up their tents never mind my own and felt perfectly fine. Satan tried to tell me that surely it would be wise to not ride the next day too, so I continued to stand. The next morning I woke up filled with energy and strength again and cycled 40km which was my goal for that day since there was so much elevation haha.
I was also trusting the Lord that everything that I needed on the trip would be provided for. Every single thing on the trip was provided for me, my transportation, accommodation, food, restaurant stops, and snacks were all provided!
Probably one of my favorite memories from this trip was when Jade and I were watching the stars and shooting stars shot across the sky and combusted. Jade and I both like little children pointed and gasped at the same time, it was such an awesome thing to see and experience together.
So praise the Lord He really showed me His glory and love on this trip!
My next goal seems to be our 7-day cycling/running trip where we cycle to Capetown and we cycle around 100km a day for 6 days and then run the Two Oceans 21km half marathon on the 7th day!
A smaller goal for me right now would be to cycle my first 100km!
